STANDARD EXCURSION TRAINS
Travel back through time aboard the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad with our 1916 Baldwin 2–8–0, Mountain Thunder, or our restored diesel engine. You’ll climb through the spectacular scenery of the Allegheny Mountains. A narrator will be aboard to provide you with information about the scenery, history, and culture along your route.
Regular Scenic Excursions depart at 11:30 AM from the Western Maryland Station in Cumberland, Maryland. The train returns to the Station at approximately 3:00 PM. There will be a 1 1/2 hour layover in Frostburg where you may enjoy lunch, watch us turn the engine on a turntable, investigate the shops and restaurants on Frostburg’s Main Street, and visit the Thrasher Carriage Museum.
You will be seated in one of our restored coaches. Most coach seats are located by large windows and seat two on either side of the aisle. Seating in the coaches for individuals is not reserved; it is on a first come, first served basis. Aboard the train there is a gift shop and snack car.
Reservations are recommended as trains can sell out. Please plan to arrive by 10:45 AM to pick up your tickets at the Ticket Office located on the second floor of the Station. You will also be given instructions on when and where to board.
For our guests that enjoy biking, you may choose to take along your bike for a small fee and ride one way on the train and take advantage of the Allegheny Highland Bike Trail. Call for additional information and to place your reservations.
