WELCOME TO THE TENNESSEE MUSEUM OF AVIATION
The Tennessee Museum of Aviation opened in mid-December 2001. The 50,000 sq. ft. facility is located right beside the 5,500 ft. runway at the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport (GKT). This unique location makes bringing aviation history to life possible as airworthy vintage aircraft are sometimes seen performing flight demonstrations. Docents are available to assist visitors as they leisurely walk through our 35,000 sq. ft. hangar. Visitors have the opportunity to observe magnificently restored Warbirds; walk down engine row; and take a glimpse at future projects waiting for restoration. The museum is essentially a living museum, therefore our exhibits and aircraft frequently change.
Browse the museum's air-conditioned artifacts gallery that traces aviation history from before the Wright Brothers. See the Gen. Jimmy Doolittle Medal of Honor, thousands of historic artifacts and Tennessee's Aviation Hall of Fame.
Historic aircraft on tour frequently visit the museum. Some provide visitors with walk-through tours as well as a way to ride along on a historic flight. The Spring Warbird Gathering and Fall Warbird Gathering attract lots of visiting airplanes providing extraordinary photo opportunities and exciting formation flybys.
The FLYING SPIRIT GIFT GALLERY is packed with gifts and souvenirs for the entire family. You'll find a huge selection of aviation books; adult and children's flight jackets; collectable die-cast models; aviation art; a large assortment of patches and pins; aviation t-shirts of all sizes; and a unique variety of original vintage aircraft parts. This is probably the largest and most remarkable selection of aviation gifts in the Southeast.
