What is the Roseville Utility Exploration Center?
It is the mission of the Roseville Utility Exploration Center to promote a healthy environment
by encouraging individual actions for a sustainable future.
Created out of the city's belief that sustainability is a principle to live by, the Exploration Center
is a one-of-a-kind environmental learning center focused on bringing visitors information on
protecting natural resources in a fun, engaging way. Topics covered include energy efficiency,
renewable technology, water conservation and recycling.
The Exploration Center is housed within the Martha Riley Library building, currently undergoing
certification as the city's first LEED-certified* green building. Designed for active community use,
the center provides a lively combination of hands-on exhibits with a Learning Lab for demonstrations,
presentations and workshops. Future plans include an outdoor extension called the Ideascape
featuring exhibits on drought-resistant (xeriscape) landscaping, irrigation and construction
innovations, solar energy, watershed protection and more.

The Technology Lab
The Technology Lab accommodates 55 people and features two large-screen plasma screens connected to a computer for audio-visual presentations. Designed for flexibility, the center can be configured for speaker presentations, lab experiments and other hands-on activities, demonstrations, or meetings. The lab's easy adaptability provides limitless options for group use during center-sponsored programs and can also be rented out by private groups.
Our Partners
Operated by Roseville's Parks and Recreation Department, the messages delivered through the
exhibits and programs are part of Roseville Electric and the Environmental Utilities' efforts to
encourage recycling, water conservation and smart energy choices. The center is the first of its kind
on the West Coast and is dedicated to its mission to educate Roseville schoolchildren, our community and the region about the benefits and feasibility of using renewable and recycled resources, advanced technologies, and sustainable building and landscaping designs to inspire and motivate efficiency
in everyday life.
