The Old Hickory Railroad features a live steam locomotive pulling two open coaches on a 6.2 mile journey back in time through the historic town of Jackson, LA. The ride commemorates the Clinton and Port Hudson Railroad, established in 1833, including a spur into Jackson.
Jackson received its present name in 1816 in honor of Andrew Jackson, the recent victor over the British in the battle of New Orleans, who passed through on his way home after the battle. The town has over 120 historic buildings, many relating to its early importance as a center of higher education, a banking center and the original seat of government for the Felicianas, and since the 1840s the site of the East Louisiana State Hospital.
