Programs at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center
The Center offers a variety of special programs. There's something for everyone regardless of your age or special interests. Please contact the GWDC for a schedule of programs during the time you wish to visit.
Keeper Kids - Join us for an exciting activity especially designed for kids ages 5-12. In this unique program, kids first learn about grizzly bear eating habits and then accompany the naturalist and animal keeper into the bear habitat to hide food for some of our resident bears. After the food is hidden, kids get to learn how bears use their sense of smell to search out food. Space in this program is limited, so please sign up with a staff naturalist on the day you want to join in the fun. Keeper Kids is offered twice a day during the summer, and at various times during the fall and winter months. This program does require a $2 partcipation fee, all other programs are included with the price of admission to the Center.
Birds of Prey - Seven raptors live at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center. A variety of local species are represented: golden eagle, rough-legged hawk, great-horned owl, western screech owl, American kestrels and peregrine falcon. Join them and a naturalist for one of our regularly scheduled programs in the theater and learn about these amazing birds.
Living with Bears - Learn how people and bears get into trouble with each other and let Jewel, a Karelian bear dog, share tips about living safely in bear country. Karelian bear dogs are from Finland and are used in the United States to teach bears to stay out of human areas.
Bear Pepper Spray Demonstrations - Does bear pepper spray really work? Join a naturalist for a demonstration with a training canister of bear spray and learn how to use it effectively in a confrontation.

Yellowstone National Park Ranger Presentation - Several times each week, rangers from Yellowstone National Park visit the GWDC. Their programs highlight the natural and historical wonders of Yellowstone. Join us for one of these special guest presentations.
Featured Staff Presentations - Staff naturalists at the Center create unique and exciting presentations for visitors. Presentations vary widely in subject matter and are presented in the theater. Current programs include: "Lewis and Clark and the 'White Bears'", and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker Make me a Match: Captive Breeding of Endangered Species". A new program on hibernation is being developed and will be featured this winter.
