The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, located at 5130 Headland Avenue just off U. S. Highway 431 North, consists of 50 acres of cultivated gardens, nature trails and undeveloped, wooded landscape in southeast Alabama. The DABG seeks to preserve the native plants of the area in an attractive balance with traditional botanical garden elements. The Garden is committed to the conservation of natural resources for future generations by providing opportunities to the public for beauty, education and research. The Concept Plan provides a detailed view of the Garden.
Founded in October 1990 with construction beginning in 1996, the Gardens have developed steadily under the leadership of an all volunteer Board of Directors. The Gardens mission is to provide an enhancement to the quality of life for Wiregrass citizens, serve as an educational resource for children and adults in garden lore and environmental issues and be a vibrant area attraction that promotes tourism and economic development in the Wiregrass.
The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens is open 365 days a year from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during daylight savings hours and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no charge to visit the Gardens but donations are always appreciated.
Most Garden areas are accessible to visitors with disabilities and group tours are available by reservation. Please allow at least two days notice.
Picnic tables are available free of charge. Visitors are asked to remove all refuse with them as trash receptacles are not available.
