About Us

The National Museum of Australia explores the land, nation and people of Australia. The Museum celebrates Australian social history in a unique way by revealing the stories of ordinary and extraordinary Australians, promoting the exploration of knowledge and ideas and providing a dynamic forum for discussion and reflection.

The National Museum of Australia is undertaking an exciting program of gallery development.

The National Museum building
is an architectural landmark which complements the beautiful surroundings of Canberra's Acton Peninsula.

The architecture was a milestone for a building of its type, and was designed to reflect the diversity of the Museum's collection. It is a visual feast, characterised by vivid colours, unexpected shapes, angles and textures.
