About the Car

The Hickory Creek is one of the latest additions to the small group of privately owned passenger cars, certified to operate anywhere across the Amtrak system. With a distinct history accredited to its assignment on the New York Central's famous 20th Century Limited, the car is a desirable option for travelers seeking daytime and overnight travel alike. Sporting a unique raised observation lounge with oversized windows and plush furniture, the views from within are unsurpassed. Meals are prepared fresh in a full stainless steel kitchen and served in the lower lounge, which doubles as your dining area. When dessert is through and you have finished your nightcap, eight guests retire to one of the four bedrooms complete with your own private shower annex.
About the Owner

The Hickory Creek is owned by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey, Inc., a non-profit 501(C) (3) organization. URHS has sponsored the restoration of this car for the sole purpose of preserving this valuable piece of railroad history for the future generations to become educated in the history of the 20th Century Limited. It will become part of a New Jersey Heritage Transportation Center, when that entity becomes a reality. In the interim, it will be displayed at other locations in the United States, if economically possible.

The Hickory Creek was restored with funds from a TEA-21 federal grant, which obligates the sponsor (URHS) to maintain the restored object in its restored condition for a minimum of 20 years. With this obligation on the horizon, URHS has chosen to Operate the Hickory Creek to a variety of destinations.

We expect that the history associated with the car will draw an interested clientele for riding it. This clientele will be expected to pay the costs associated with its operations and additional amount that will be invested in the maintenance fund deemed necessary to meet the obligations of the federal government. These costs will be inclusive in the prorated amount charged to each passenger for travel to each destination.

The Hickory Creek was rebuilt by and is operated by Star Trak Incorporated.
